Presented without comment, an entry from my old Livejournal, posted Dec. 17th, 2008:
mood: hopeful
"I feel like the government's working for me. I feel like it's accountable. I feel like it's transparent. I feel that I am well informed about what government actions are being taken. I feel that this is a President and an Administration that admits when it makes mistakes and adapts itself to new information, that believes in making decisions based on facts and on science as opposed to what is politically expedient." - President-Elect Obama on what he hopes the American people will be able to say about his administration in two years, in his interview with Time magazine.
Accountability? Transparency? Decisions based on science not politics? Somebody find me a fainting couch, I am about to swoon.
This is like waking up from a terrifying nightmare to a beautiful spring morning outside your window. Excuse me while I take a brief break from cynical reality to bask in the sweet light of hope.

I remember when Obama was elected. I was a junior in high school, and I believed so many things. So. Many. Things.
The only thing I can really say is at the very least, I don't feel like a complete moron's behind the wheel, trying consciously to screw me over.
There is that. Although I'm not convinced that makes it better. We're getting screwed over either way, so is it really better for it to be coming from someone who doesn't believe that's what he's doing, or someone who knows full well and intends it? I'd almost rather the malicious ass than the patronizing faux-ally.
Fucking sucks that those seem to be the choices, though.
Well, it's important to take degree into account, too. It's more like the faux-ally would be fucking you over in some (if a lot of) places, whereas the malicious ass would be raping every ideal you've ever had.
The choices suck, but I don't suppose I'm gonna vote for consciously destroy everything over unconsciously ruin x amount of things, you know?
I want that beautiful spring morning back. It was so pretty, and I was so hopeful...
Yeah. Me too. :-(
A fair point, although personally I'm not sure I can vote *for* either. But for me it's about expectation, too - I *expect* conservatives to trash everything they can get their hands on, so I'm not surprised or let-down when it happens. Whereas with someone who presumes and purports to be an ally, it's a slap in the face when it happens. Like, WTF is this shit? This is not what I voted for! The betrayal hurts worse, for me, than the maliciousness.
Also can we not use "rape" as a metaphor for politics? Or really anything except referring to actual rape? At least in this space. Thanks.
Sorry. Edited.
Thank you. :-)
